Quality Measurement

Quality Measurement

Crude oil production must meet specific density, viscosity, and water cut specifications for custody transfer defined by pipeline companies.

Not meeting these conditions prior to shipping can lead to significant reprocessing fees and operation downtime.

Our complete solution enables accurate compliance measurement using a quality skid to ensure crude oil quality meets or exceeds all required process conditions before shipment leaves the facility or custody transfer point.

Micro Motion’s densitometer provides high accuracy density measurement and can achieve an accuracy of 0.0002 g/cc which exceeds crude oil quality requirements. Micro Motion DVS viscometer probe offers a wide viscosity range to accurately measure upset conditions where over or under blending may have occurred. We provide improved water cut measurement accuracy though their patented density compensated water cut measurement.

Metering Station Control Valves

Metering Station Control Valves

Pipeline operators require high accuracy flow measurement for accurate billing and for the delivery of liquids to the open market.

Flow balancing control valves are used in the measurement manifold to effectively equalize the fluid flow and ensure each meter is working effectively.

Emerson Fisher™ flow balancing valves work in cooperation with downstream backpressure control valves to ensure adequate head pressure at the meter manifold for smooth flow control.

The backpressure valve also ensures the last pressure drop to tankage occurs without any undue noise, vibration, or cavitation.

LACT

LACT

Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) units measure the net volume and quality of liquid hydrocarbons.

Abrasive material in crude oil causes mechanical part wear which increases maintenance, operational costs, and safety risks.

Emerson's Micro Motion Coriolis technology improves safety, reduces maintenance, and improves volume and BS&W accuracy.

The Micro Motion Coriolis Meter measures mass, density, and temperature and provides a volume output based on the internal calculation of Volume = Mass / Density. The technology has no internal moving parts, thus eliminating maintenance concerns. The density compensated BS&W and API Chapter 11.1 volume calculations can be provided in the Emerson ROC800 flow computer running Liquid Allocations software.

Early Batch Detection

Early Batch Detection

Pipeline companies ship multiple liquids in batches on the same pipeline and rely on batch detection to monitor the movement of these fluids.

The batch detection and switching point may be at the start, middle or end of the transitional fluid and requires responsive and accurate density measurement for operational control.

Rosemount’s Micro Motion Coriolis meter and a non-contacting densitometer provides in line measurement and a combined flow reading which is common for large pipelines to realize low capital costs.

Selecting a non-contacting densitometer provides non-intrusive measurement that clamps on the outer wall of the pipeline, offering a maintenance-free solution which can be easily installed on existing pipelines without process down time.

Truck Unloading System FB107/ Truck LACT

Truck Unloading System FB107/ Truck LACT

Accurately monitor offloading from a truck bay for hydrocarbon fluids

Our TUS FB107TL system accurately monitors offloading from a truck bay for hydrocarbon fluids such as condensate or light to heavy density crude oil.

The system utilizes Emerson's Micro Motion Coriolis Meter for volume flow measurement and water cut determination. The meter provides three on-line measurements that include mass flow, density, and temperature. Volume measurement is derived from the mass and density variables and the meter can be used over a wide range of density and volume flow rates providing custody transfer accuracy. The TUS FB107 system incorporates patented Density Compensation for 0-5% monitoring and a patented Net Oil Density Comparison for the 5-100% water cut calculation.

Unit Train Loading and Unloading

Unit Train Loading and Unloading

According to the National Energy Board, Canada exported an average of 46,000 bpd of crude oil by rail to the United States in 2012.

As typical pipeline shipments need to be diluted with 30 percent condensate to reduce viscosity, moving bitumen by rail has become a viable option. Unit trains are comprised of a single commodity and are typically assembled and disassembled at a single origin and destination, providing economies of scale, short lead times and rail freight efficiencies.

Spartan Controls RailVue™ is designed and built for reliability, allowing producers to reduce capital losses from unaccounted fluid volumes by reducing measurement error.

Accurate density corrected water cuts using the dynamic AutoComp™ calculation provides accurate oil and water volumes, industry compliance calculations and real-time data management and diagnostics. The RailVue™ system is scalable to meet any number of transfer points required at a terminal and interfaces with corporate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and production accounting.
