Boiler Drum Level Indication

Boiler Drum Level Indication

Damage to the steam drum, the boiler, and the turbine can result from inaccurate drum level control.

If the drum level falls below set-point, there is a risk of the boiler running dry. If the level is higher than set-point, there is a risk that wet steam could carry over to the turbine, causing damage to the turbine blades.

Challenges with continual boiler water level measurement include high pressure and temperatures;

Changing steam dielectric and water density as a result of pressure and temperature changes; a small control range; and a redundant level measurement requirement. Spartan Controls assists in overcoming these process challenges and helps to meet redundant measurement requirements with the Rosemount 5300 GWR with high temperature, high pressure seal and Dynamic Vapor Compensation prove paired with the Rosemount 3051S differential pressure transmitter.

Boiler Process Control

Boiler Process Control

Boilers are essential to the efficient operation of a thermal plant.

The frequent cycling that is required during operation can increase the likelihood of mechanical degradation. Operators may find it difficult to swing loads quickly while maintaining optimal steam temperatures.

Our boiler process control solution enhance the safety and availability of your boilers.

Our solution uses predictive diagnostics, digital communications, and integrated security features. It also integrates various communications networks (HART, Fieldbus, DeviceNet, etc.) and includes intuitive programming tools for control logic, graphics, history, and alarming configuration.

Pressure Measurement

Pressure Measurement

The many processes involved to efficiently generate steam will require pressure monitoring and control of a wide range of pressure applications from very low pressures.

This ranges from furnace draft to eliminate positive furnace pressure excursions, to extremely high pressures when controlling a supercritical steam generator.

We offer Rosemount technologies that offer pressure measurement solutions to assist in accurate measurement of the various ranges required.

The best-in-class stability reduces maintenance costs and potential downtime of the pressure measurement process.

Condensate Control

Condensate Control

One of the most important pieces of equipment in a power plant is the condenser.

The condenser is responsible for providing a high vacuum environment where turbine exhaust steam can be condensed and where condensate can be collected and returned to the steam generator. Condensate pumps must be protected from overheating and cavitation to avoid high maintenance costs, unplanned downtime, and production inefficiencies.

Our condensate control solutions provide high reliability control in critical high temperature service applications.

Eliminate condensate system variability, improve heat rate, and minimize vibration and damage associated with cavitation with our trusted solutions.

Corrosion and deposition, stemming from poor water chemistry, can result in premature maintenance and downtime of the boiler system.

Corrosion and deposition, stemming from poor water chemistry, can result in premature maintenance and downtime of the boiler system.

By maintaining the boiler feedwater within a very narrow range of pH, we can extend the life of the boiler and its associated components. Additionally, high pressure boilers require monitoring of the return condensate to ensure that Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) contamination remains within acceptable limits.

Choose the solution designed for the application.

Accurate conductivity measurement to infer TDS is accomplished with an Emerson Rosemount™ 1056 Dual-Input Intelligent Analyzer in conjunction with Rosemount™ 404 Contacting Conductivity Sensors mounted around a Model CH16D/DE cation column.

Steam Conditioning

Steam Conditioning

Competing in today’s power market requires the ability to utilize multiple strategies for steam conditioning.

Increased cyclical operation, daily start-stop, and faster ramp rates are used to ensure full load operation at daily peak hours to maximize profit and allow for plant availability.

The sizing, selection, application, and installation of the proper desuperheating or steam conditioning equipment are critical to optimum performance.

Emerson Fisher™ steam conditioning technologies provide the reliable solutions needed for these critical applications.

Heater Drain Control

Heater Drain Control

In a heater drain system, flashing fluids can cause erosion damage to control valves and associated piping.

This can lead to trim failure and high maintenance costs. Production inefficiencies also result from seat leakage and poor heat transfer in heaters.

Our heater drain control solutions utilize WC9 body material and hardened trims to reduce flashing damage and gaurd against higher operation costs.

This leads to longer life and higher reliability of your valve. Using high force actuators and ANSI class V shutoff eliminates leakage on emergency drains, leading to increased efficiency and safer conditions. To improve accuracy, gain better level control, and improve heat transfer, speak to one of our team members today.

Sky Vent Silencing

Sky Vent Silencing

Valves within a sky vent system bypass steam around the turbine to ensure the unit does not come up to temperature too quickly.

The large pressure differential across the sky vent valve can cause high noise levels that need to be attenuated. Additionally, high temperatures and valve leakage in a sky vent application can reduce plant load and efficiency if the valves are degraded.

Our sky vent silencing solution uses a noise attenuating control valve and diffuser combination to minimize noise generation.

The pressure drop is split between the valve and a downstream diffuser or silencer to reduce noise. High alloy materials and thermally compensated trim designs are used to maintain tight shutoff and increase the lifespan of valves.

As power generating facilities swing their output to meet varying demand, they place additional requirements on the turbine bypass valves.

As power generating facilities swing their output to meet varying demand, they place additional requirements on the turbine bypass valves.

The bypass function requires valves to quickly and accurately change load on the turbine during startup, emergency, or clean-up situations.

Turbines and boiler tubes are generally among the single highest cost assets within a power generation facility, and for this reason, these assets must be protected from operation outside the normal process temperature and pressure operating conditions.

Choose the best solution for the application.

During startup, or turbine trip conditions, steam turbines require the use of main steam bypass systems to protect equipment from thermal shock or second phase flow. Emerson Fisher™ steam conditioning valves, supplied by us, allow for efficient turbine bypass in startup or trip conditions by reducing pressure and temperature of the bypass steam in a single device.

Beyond tube leaks, some of the boiler's supporting equipment is susceptible to failure as well.

Rotating equipment, such as your Forced Draft (FD), Induced Draft (ID) and Primary Air (PA) fans, are critical for operations. Neglecting maintenance of rotating equipment contributes to forced outages.

Deploying online condition monitoring reveals performance problems long before they affect operations and is a must for any modern plant.
